Average commute times in minutes

All of the average commute times have decreased slightly from last year. This could be a direct result of rising travel costs and petrol which has made employees rethink about their job and how far they can afford to commute. Alternatively it could be a result of their being more choice in the job market at present compared with last year; candidates simply do not need to travel as far in order to find a job. The only massive variations from the average are again found in Cambridgeshire and in the coastal areas; the figures for Norfolk and Suffolk are traditionally higher due to the less dense population of these areas as a result of them being predominantly rural.

Many candidates are also looking to reduce their commute in search of a better work/life balance. Commuting over two hours a day or more is taking its toll on employees who would be willing to take a lower salary for something which was ‘on their doorstep’.

Average commuting times in the Norfolk/Suffolk area still remain high which could be a result of these locations being predominately rural and having a sparse amount of recruiting companies. Therefore, these job seekers are willing to commute a little further to find a suitable role.
