Reasons for Leaving

The findings of the ‘Reasons for Leaving’ section have changed since last year, when the focus was on searching for a better salary. Employees are now looking for career progression or new challenges but it could be argued that if job seekers are looking for career progression they are indirectly searching for better salaries.
As already reported, redundancy has decreased as one of the reasons why candidates are looking to leave and it will be interesting to see if this changes over the coming year. The better work/life balance has been a surprise fluctuation in this category. Candidates are reviewing their current balance and it seems that commuting times and the length of working days are now being taken into consideration when looking for their next career move. After the clamour and urgency of the recession, it now appears that candidates are beginning to feel more secure and in control of their careers.
