Are marketers getting into the Halloween spirit for 2014?

Halloween, once known as All Hallows Eve, is a billion-pound industry, although it can sometimes feel overshadowed as you can almost guarantee that as Halloween is approaching, Christmas is creeping up on us too. However, there are many ways that companies can scare up more business during this holiday, particularly within the retail industry which is forecast to get a £330 million boost from Halloween, up 3.5% from last year. According to the Guardian, pumpkins, decorations and costumes are all in high demand this year. It is said that Sainsbury’s expects customers to buy almost a whopping 1.5 million pumpkins and Asda has said it sold 20% more pumpkins than this time last year.

Despite this Halloween retailer boost, according to Offerpop, only 24% of businesses plan to have a mobile holiday display. Even though 41% of customers are using their mobile devices to view a product they have seen in an advert and 80% of customers are planning to make a purchase with their devices, mobile is certainly a great way to capture customers.

Of course, when it comes to Halloween, social media is without a doubt in the cauldron mix, as brands are participating in the hashtaggery of Halloween. In 2013 there were 600,000+ posts on Instagram and 200,000+ tweets using #Halloween2013, and while #Halloween2014 has already been used 1,900+ times on Twitter and 80,000+ times on Instagram.
