Brand Recruitment held its first Google Hangout on the 30th July. With the popularity of Google Hangouts growing, we saw this as an opportunity to engage with our candidates. The topic was on interview tips and techniques and was held in a Q&A format. Candidates had been encouraged to email their questions on the interview process beforehand for them to be answered by one of Brand Recruitment’s consultants.
The Hangout was streamed live onto Brand Recruitment’s YouTube channel as Hannah Szurek, Recruitment Consultant, answered the questions that were sent in. These questions varied from general interview questions to more specific marketing based questions. In answer to the question, ‘what is the best way to explain any gaps in your employment?’, Hannah suggests to “be honest. The company will have seen your CV so it is inevitable that you will be asked about gaps in your employment.”
Another question focused on attending an interview for an Online Marketing Manager position and ‘if the employer asks how would you improve their company website, how honest should [you] be with the employer?’ This is always a tricky question to answer but Hannah advises “to judge the situation. Be as honest as possible because the employer needs to see that you fully understand the company and brand.” She recommends not to “just focus on the negatives but relate what they are doing well and make suggestions on how and where they could make improvements with evidence to back this up.”
Victoria Kelly, who hosted Brand’s first Google Hangout, commented that “we hope our candidates enjoyed the Hangout as much as we did filming it. We wanted to think outside the box and offer recruitment advice via a social media channel and Google Hangouts provided the perfect format for us to do this. We are already planning our next Hangout!'”
Brand Recruitment’s next Google Hangout will be on the marketing job market at the end of August.
