Happy birthday to us! – It’s crazy to think that we’ve been around for a decade…Brand Recruitment was founded in Cambridge back in 2005 when we spotted a gap in the market for a specialist marketing recruiter with strong local roots and knowledge. Over the past ten years we’ve literally gone from two people starting a business from scratch, to being the number one, go-to marketing recruitment agency in the region.
A massive moment for us was being awarded ‘Best Regional Agency of the Year’ at the Marketing and Advertising Recruitment Awards in only our third year of being in business! This was an award we then went on to win for a second year in a row, and continue to be finalists for each year. In 2015 we were made one of just three finalists for the ‘Best Creative/Digital/Media Recruitment Agency of the Year’ at the prestigious Recruiter Awards. Again, this was a major achievement for us as it meant that despite being a regional agency we were being recognised at not just a local but a national level amongst our recruitment peers.
We are also incredibly proud of the staff that we have trained up and watched grow over the years. One thing I love is seeing people come into the business as recent graduates or without recruitment experience and watching them grow and develop into top performers. The team atmosphere at Brand is fantastic, and our employees often group together and work hard as a team. As with any company, there are times when we may not quite be where we need to be, so seeing employees work together and change this is incredibly rewarding.
Over the past decade we have built up an impressive client base within the region which includes major household brand names such as Thomas Cook, easyJet, Greene King, Bosch Home Appliances amongst others, as well as working with some of the most exciting and innovative companies in the region across all industry sectors!
Naturally, as with many small businesses, we’ve had our share of bad luck… In particular, 2009, when the recession hit it really affected us as companies just weren’t recruiting in marketing. Whilst we were fortunate enough to not have to let anyone go, I can admit that we were barely covering costs, and there was always that stress of not quite knowing what the future would hold and if we would survive… When this happened it was only our fourth year as a business, but fortunately we survived by agreeing exclusivity at lower rates with clients who were recruiting – without the reputation we had already developed, and sheer hard work, we wouldn’t be lucky enough to be where we are today.
Moving out of our first shoebox-sized office in the centre of Cambridge was bittersweet for me as whilst it was exciting to be taking Brand to the next level, there were so many fond memories and there was so much hard work that went on in that office which made it really sad to say goodbye to! Definitely one of the hardest things to say goodbye to at the first office was a pair of cute neighbours we had in the form of two cats called Penny and Big Grey – since moving out we have heard that Big Grey is still around, but we know Penny was never quite herself since we left and we’ve never seen her again – it really felt like losing a family pet!
We’re currently in the process of organising a big belated 10th birthday celebration for everyone at Brand for spring next year – in the mean time we will raise a glass to a fantastic decade and many more to come!Share this:
